On March 12, the 11th Criminal Division of Seoul Western District Court held the second trial of Nam Tae Hyun, accused of violating the traffic law. During the hearing, prosecutors asked for a prison sentence of one year and six months as well as a fine of 1 million won.
The prosecution argued that the nature of the crime was serious due to several factors, including recidivism, high blood alcohol concentration and that the crime occurred while the defendant was already serving a suspended sentence.
Nam Tae Hyun is accused of driving while intoxicated around 4:10 a.m. on April 27, 2025, near Dongjak Bridge on the Gangbyeonbuk-ro Highway in Seoul, heading towards Ilsan. His blood alcohol concentration at the time was reportedly 0.122%, far exceeding the license revocation standard of 0.08%.
Investigations revealed that Nam Tae Hyun was driving at 182 km/h in an 80 km/h speed limit zone when he crashed into a central reservation. Fortunately, no one was injured in the accident.
This marks the second drunk driving offense for Nam Tae Hyun. In March 2023, while under investigation in a drug-related case, he caused a car accident while intoxicated and was summarily sentenced to pay a fine of 6 million won.
Furthermore, in January last year, he was indicted together with his ex-girlfriend Seo Min Jae for violating the Narcotics Control Act and was sentenced to one year in prison with a two-year suspended sentence.
