On February 8, Hong Jin Kyung took to social media and wrote: “#KimRaelRealLife #BeforeEditing #AfterEditing #FakeLife Rael, isn’t he basically a fraud at this point?!”
She then shared a private conversation with an acquaintance who asked her: “Have you seen Rael’s photos going around Instagram?” Hong Jin Kyung replied, “Yes, I saw them. It’s driving me crazy” before revealing bluntly, “They’re all modified.”
Hong Jin Kyung went on to explain that there appears to be an app that reshapes your face, sharpens your jawline, lifts the bridge of your nose, and applies makeup automatically. He joked, saying the result made Rael look like a Chinese beauty icon, adding that he initially thought it was actress Fan Bingbing. Along with this, she posted photos showing Rael before the edit.
Continuing the playful tone, Hong Jin Kyung wrote, “Why don’t you join your mother and experience a ‘pretend life’ together?” She added it he would later republish the conversation with Rael after obtaining his daughter’s consent.
When science YouTuber Orbit commented, asking if Rael had accepted the post, Hong Jin Kyung responded honestly, saying he hadn’t. He joked that the situation seemed so serious he posted it anyway, adding that in some way it had become one “a mother who shaved her minor daughter’s jaw.”
Previously, Rael’s latest photos had circulated widely in online communities and social media. The pictures, which showed her with striking images resembling a Chinese beauty, quickly went viral and sparked widespread debate.
