In Chinese entertainment, Gan Wei, Jing Tian, Bai Bing, and Han Xue were famously known as the “four beauties of the capital”: women admired not only for their looks, but also for their elite backgrounds and seemingly charmed lives. They were often described as “flowers born in wealth” within the sector.
But fate dealt Gan Wei a cruel hand. Once admired for marrying a powerful company president and walking away from showbiz to become a wealthy socialite, Gan Wei later revealed that this decision became the most tragic turning point in her life. Abandoned by her husband, burdened with staggering debts and left alone to raise three children, her fairy tale fell apart overnight.
Born in 1984, Gan Wei began acting in 2009 and gained recognition through films such as Kung Fu Cyborg, Welcome to Shama TownAND Love is not blindworking alongside big stars including Wu Jing, Hu Jun and Sun Li. However, compared to the other members of the “Four Beauties”, her acting career was not internationally successful.
In 2008, Gan Wei married Jia Yueting, president of LeTV. The couple had three children together. At its peak, LeTV was a dominant force in China’s entertainment and media sector, once valued at 150 billion yuan. With her husband’s support, Gan Wei launched her own investment and film production company.

By early 2019, Jia was officially bankrupt. He resigned, said he was traveling abroad for work, then fled to the United States, leaving Gan Wei and their children in China.
The debts Jia left behind were catastrophic. Gan Wei was banned from leaving the country, banned from luxury shopping, had her assets frozen, and faced relentless legal battles alone. In November 2019, she filed for divorce, citing her husband’s irresponsibility and abandonment.
Gan Wei requested legal separation of assets and demanded that Jia take sole responsibility for the debts. However, the court rejected her request, ruling that both spouses shared legal responsibility for debts incurred during the marriage. From the United States, Jia wired her $510,000 in child support, then disappeared from public view.
Gan Wei then revealed that she was once forced to repay 1.2 billion yuan in just seven days on behalf of her husband. He said he had exhausted his savings, borrowed money and mortgaged assets to pay off loans with business partners. “It was the most terrifying time of my life, something I would never want to experience again,” he admitted.
In May 2025, Gan Wei officially announced that she and Jia Yueting had finalized their divorce. She said she had not received any assets from him and strongly denied rumors that the couple staged the separation to hide a 40 billion yuan fortune.
“We have been together for more than ten years, but we can no longer go forward together” Gan Wei said. “I am grateful for the time we shared. From now on, I will continue my life as a mother, film producer and philanthropist.”
Today, Gan Wei has lost both its reputation and credibility in the entertainment industry. He no longer receives acting offers and investors refuse to finance his projects. To survive, it turned to live streaming sales. After years of repaying debts, legal pressures and raising three children on her own, the once glamorous beauty has visibly aged: her dramatic transformation has become a clear symbol of how quickly fortune can fade.
