On December 5, Dispatch reported that Cho Jin-woong, during his high school years, allegedly participated in car thefts, drove without a license and was involved in an attempted sexual assault, which led to charges under the Specified Crimes Aggravated Punishment Act. According to the report, Cho Jin-woong was later sent to a juvenile detention center.
Further claims have resurfaced regarding incidents during Cho Jin-woong’s early acting years, including an alleged assault on a fellow theater troupe that reportedly resulted in a fine and a separate drink-driving charge that led to the cancellation of his license. These details, however, have yet to be verified with official documentation.
In response to the rapidly spreading allegations, Cho Jin-woong’s agency Saram Entertainment said: “We are currently fact-checking the reports. We will release an official position once the details are confirmed.”
The Cho Jin-woong controversy has sparked widespread concern about tvN’s future Signal 2, the sequel to the hit 2016 series Signalwith Kim Hye-soo, Lee Je-hoon and Cho Jin-woong himself.

The sequel, produced as part of tvN’s 20th anniversary special program, had completed filming earlier this year from February to August and was scheduled for release in June 2026. The reunion of the original cast, along with the addition of actor Ahn Jae-hong, had generated huge anticipation among fans.
