This SBS drama reaches #1 on Netflix Korea in just one week

The new SBS drama from Wednesday to Thursday “Dynamite Kiss” made an explosive entry, immediately topping Netflix Korea’s “Top 10 Series Today” chart on November 15. After its premiere on November 12, the drama quickly captured viewers’ attention with its high-energy romance and familiar yet compelling tropes.

The series follows a bizarre premise: a single woman who pretends to be a mother to get a job and her emotionally constipated foreman who unexpectedly falls in love with her. The leads, played by Jang Ki Yong and Ahn Eun Jin, bring their characters to life with charismatic chemistry and emotional depth.

Jang Ki Yong plays Gong Ji Hyeok, a sharp and competent team leader who excels at his job but refuses to believe in love. Ahn Eun Jin plays Go Da Rim, a job seeker who pretends to be a married woman to secure employment. Despite the clichéd setup of two people from very different walks of life, the drama leans into the “family flavor” trope with a purpose. Rather than reinventing the wheel, it steps up the formula with intense plot developments and emotional stakes right from the start.

Promoted as a “A dopamine-fueled love story that begins with a kiss,” the drama lives up to its hype. The November 12 premiere episode showed rapid romantic progression and a shocking kiss scene between the leads, garnering a peak national rating of 6.3%. The kiss, compared to a “natural disaster” of intensity, left audiences eager for more.

In episode two, the emotional stakes are raised even further with an unexpected breakup and reunion. When Gong Ji Hyeok and Go Da Rim, having separated, suddenly meet during a job interview – one as an interviewer, the other as a candidate – the cliffhanger ending amplifies the anticipation. The second episode recorded a national approval rating of 4%, with a peak of 5%.

The drama is expected to increase tension as Ji Hyeok continues to misunderstand Da Rim’s false identity as “mom”, while Da Rim struggles to maintain her acting to survive in her job. Their slow, bickering romance promises more thrills and emotional moments to come.

Spectators reacted enthusiastically. Comments from online communities include:

  • “Honestly, I can’t wait to see what happens next!”,
  • “This floating feeling… am I going crazy?”,

To add to the excitement, actor Namkoong Min has confirmed a special cameo. Director Kim Jae Hyun, who directs “Dynamite Kiss”he has already worked with Namkoong Min on “One Dollar Lawyer”a drama that peaked at 15.2% in ratings. Namkoong Min will reprise his iconic role as Chun Ji Hoon from that series, further raising expectations. He also starred alongside Ahn Eun Jin in MBC “My dear”creating a stir among fans who loved their past on-screen chemistry.

SBS “Dynamite Kiss” airs every Wednesday and Thursday at 9pm KST.
