Jung So-min shocks viewers with a bold proposal to Choi Woo-shik: “Will you be my husband?”

SBS’s newest Friday-Saturday drama Would you marry me? started with a fast-paced, exciting and unexpected plot, where Jung So Min’s character comes forward first and declares independence after heartbreak.

The series premiered on October 10, and its first episode immediately captivated viewers, recording a peak audience rating of 7.0% nationwide and topping its time slot across all channels. The show stars Choi Woo-shik as perfectionist chaebol heir Kim Woo-joo and Jung So-min as Yoo Me-ri, a woman caught between bad luck and serendipity.

Episode 1 opens with Me-ri discovering her fiancé’s infidelity right before the wedding. What’s worse is that he has already completed marriage registration due to a property loan in their name.

In a cathartic scene, Me-ri confronts him and says: “If I live with you, I’ll end up divorcing you anyway. Then I’d rather do it now.” She spills her drink on him, ending the relationship in style.

A month later, Me-ri finalizes her divorce but, before she can emotionally recover, she is hit with a rental scam involving her would-be newlyweds’ home. Her ex coldly refuses to help her, saying: “We are nothing now.”

At her lowest point, Me-ri drunkenly gets into a minor accident with Kim Woo-joo (Choi Woo-shik), who happens to share the same name as her ex. Mistaking him for her ex-boyfriend, a chaotic and hilarious misunderstanding ensues, complete with cactus injuries, emotional confessions, and Woo-joo’s reluctant kindness as he takes her to the hospital.

Their chemistry begins from this accidental meeting that combines comedy, anguish and destiny.

As if fate is mocking her, Me-ri suddenly discovers that she has won a ₩5 billion luxury residence in a wedding event. However, since the award is reserved for married couples, she will have to attend the awards ceremony together with her husband.

With divorce papers still unfiled, Me-ri finds herself in a dilemma until she meets Woo-joo again. Nervously, he blurts out, “I know this is sudden, but… will you be my husband?”

The episode ends with Woo-joo’s stunned expression, setting the stage for a whirlwind romance.

Would you marry me? it earned praise for its dynamic pace and throbbing romantic energy. Viewers highlighted the chemistry between Choi Woo-shik and Jung So-min, calling it that “refreshing, exciting and irresistibly fun.”

Choi Woo-shik impressed audiences with her portrayal of a stoic but kind-hearted chaebol, while Jung So-min’s layered performance, balancing heartbreak, humor and hope, showcased her growth as one of Korea’s most versatile rom-com actresses.
