Further investigations in New Daily revealed that it was not Haerin’s family, but rather the father of Hyein who opposed the cause, even leading to a civil cause between Hyein’s parents on who had the legal right to act as his guardian in court.

Chosun Ilbo He observed that among the members only Hyein and Haerin are minor and the judge’s comments implied that a disagreement had occurred between the parents of one of the minors regarding the exercise of parents’ rights for the cause of the contract, pushing them to bring the matter to the family court.

Due to a record of the online court that appointed the accused 4 with the surname Kang, many thought it was referring to Haerin. Since Haerin and Hyein are minor, their parents are instead appointed in the register of the court as defendants. This could refer to one of the parents. Since the spouses do not adopt the surname of their partner in South Korea, many thought that the accused 4 was Haerin’s parents since Haerin has the surname Kang.
The New Daily investigation discovered that the parent who opposed the cause was actually Hyein’s father. Newjeans, who now operates independently under the name Njz, has been in conflict with their ADER agency since November 2023 for their exclusive contracts. While it is not clear what the position of Hyein’s father was when Njz initially warned Ador of the termination of the contract on November 29, 2023, it seems that it originally aligned with the group and the other parents. But at a certain point, he changed his mind and opposed the resolution, leading to a legal dispute with his wife who had the right to represent Hyein.
In an audition of the family court on March 14, 2025, regarding the rights of legal custody presented by Hyein’s mother against her father, the court decided in favor of her mother.
