The name and fandom of Ateez
The name of the group, Ateez, comes from the term “A Teenage Z” and brings the meaning of “everything related to teenagers”. It is also for “Aaz”, which implies that Ateez is an energetic and passionate group, just like teenagers.
In the meantime, the name Fandom, Ainy, is a combination of Ateez and the word “destiny”.

Pre-debut
Kg Entertainment began to plan a new group of boys after a staff member discovered a letter and a champion of Kim Hongjoong champion, who in the end would become the leader of Ateez, expressing interest in becoming a trainee at the company a due to his admiration of block B, also a group managed by KQ Entertainment. During the following year, the members Mingi, San, Seonghwa, Yeosang, Jongho and Woodoung joined KQ Entertainment as trainees and were known as “KQ Fellaz” before debut.
At the end of 2017, Hongjoong, Mingi, Woodoung and Jongho competed in the Mix of Reality Show of Survival nine, positioning the 42 °, 63rd, 72 ° and 43 ° respectively on all male competitors. Post-debut
On October 24, 2018, Ateez published their debut EP, “Treasure Ep.1: All to Zero”, together with the music videos for the two individual “Pirate King” and “Treasure”. Their showcase debut was held on the same day. The group later returned with “Treasure Ep.2: Zero to One” in January 2019.
On January 24, 2019, Ateez announced their first tour, The Expedition Tour, which included stops in 5 American cities and 2 Australian cities. They also performed at their first joint K-Pop concert, Kcon 2019 Japan in the same year. On November 10th, The Boy Group published their first music video in Japanese language for the song “Utopia”, before dropping their Japanese debut album “Treasure ep. Extra: move the map”.
In 2020, Ateez kicked off their second world tour, this time also by visiting Europe-a destination considered rather demanding for K-Pop artists, with many of the exhausted dates. However, due to the concerns for the Covid-19 pandemic, the tour was postponed indefinitely, with the exception of the opening performances to Soul.
Over the years, Ateez has grown constantly in popularity, although mainly outside Korea. However, their success in Korea should not be threatened, since they gained their 1st Bonsang at the 30th Soul Music Awards and attracted attention through their appearance in the musical show “Immortal Songs”. The group also won the Artist of the Year at Fact Music Awards in 2021.
Since then, Ateez has successfully completed several world tours, which cover all more continents. They also became the first K-Pop Boy group to embellish Coachella’s stage, one of the world’s largest music festivals in 2024.

Disputes
Ateez has been tangled in multiple disputes on the plagiarism, although nobody started on their side. In particular, the MV “OO” of NMIXX has been accused of copying various details by the ATEEZ MV, triggering the discussion.
In addition, there was a case in which (G) the I-At Soyeon was accused of plagiarism the song by Ateez “Wave” in his song “Sun” for the “My Teenage Girl” hearing program. In the end, Soyeon had to give credit to the “wave” manufacturer to the “sun” tail titles.
