Starship Entertainment, the label of six-member IVE, has issued an apology after posting sexual deepfakes of the girl group.
The company reposted a fan-created deepfake on the social media platform Weibo, which contained deepfakes and insults towards IVE’s Yujin.
In response to fan outrage and criticism, Starship Entertainment issued an official apology. The company said the incident occurred when a social media manager accidentally shared the post in an attempt to report it.
“Hi, I’m Starship Entertainment,
We would like to address the post that was uploaded today on Starship Entertainment’s Weibo.
This incident occurred during the process of reporting a malicious post, and the post has since been deleted.
We sincerely apologize to the artist and fans who may have been upset by this post. We will pay more attention to account management to ensure such errors do not happen again. We apologize for the inconvenience. Once again, we are very sorry.”
Fans, however, are not convinced by the company’s statement, with many explaining why the company’s apology seemed flimsy.
“There’s no way this is an error because you’re asked twice when you repost on Weibo,” one fan said.
