TXT’s Hueningkai is the latest celebrity to contribute to the families of the Jeju plane crash victims.
“Hueningkai donated 50 million KRW (about $34,012) on January 1 to support victims affected by the Jeju Air plane crash,” the Korean Red Cross announced on January 3.
The organization noted that the generous donation will be used to support families affected by the accident and to assist in ongoing disaster recovery efforts.
“I felt immense pain upon hearing the sudden news of the accident. I wanted to offer even the smallest help to the grieving families,” Hueningkai said in a statement.
The Korean Red Cross has been on site since the tragedy occurred on December 29, with volunteers and staff sending psychological support counselors to the victims.
The plane, a Boeing 737-800, had departed from Thailand and attempted to land at Muan International Airport in southern South Korea.
After an initial failed landing attempt, the aircraft received a bird strike warning, with the pilot issuing a distress signal before the aircraft crashed with its nose landing gear closed, overshooting the runway and catching fire as crashed into a concrete fence.
South Korea has announced a period of national mourning to honor the victims, which will begin on December 29 and end on January 4.
Hueningkai joins a long list of celebrities who have contributed to victims’ families, including BTS’ J-Hope, Lovelyz’s Jin, actor Im Si Wan and comedian Din Din.
