Actor Lee Je Hoon announced a new philanthropic project to help those most vulnerable to climate change.
Lee is collaborating with Oxfam Koreaan international relief and development organization, plans to launch a Naver Happy Bean financing project. Starting December 25, KST, the “Water Tank Keyring” project will support the world’s poorest populations who are most at risk from climate change-induced disasters.
The keychain was designed by Lee Je Hoon himself, drawing inspiration from the Tanzanian children he spent time with in 2016 as an ambassador for Oxfan Korea. He was at a relief site and spent his days helping to install clean water and sanitation facilities. Lee saw children playing with toy trucks made from waste materials and was inspired to create a keychain from leftover leather to minimize carbon emissions.
The donation drive will last approximately one month starting December 25 and participants will be able to participate via Naver Happy Bean. The funds will be used to provide clean water, food and sanitation to communities most affected by drought, floods and conflict.
Meanwhile, Lee has become an ambassador for Oxfan since 2015 and was the first member of the Oxfam Honors Club after donating over ₩100 million KRW (approximately US$68,800) to the organization’s campaigns. He also visited Tanzania and the Philippines to directly participate in relief operations.
