On December 23, the YouTube channel run by former journalist Lee Jin-ho addressed the controversy over Song Mino’s alleged inadequate military service.
Lee began by stating: “The problem arose when photos of Song Mino’s sister’s wedding, which took place in the United States in May, were made public..” He continued: “At that time, Song Mino was serving as a clerk in the civil service, but he violated the regulations with his long hair, and it was discovered that he had not even undergone basic military training.“
Lee further explained: “Song Mino said he was assigned to public service due to bipolar disorder, panic disorder and social phobia. However, during the various variety show appearances he filmed before his enlistment, there were no visible signs of mental health problems, leading to suspicions that he may be suffering from “selective panic disorder”..”
Lee then personally walked from Song Mino’s residence to the Mapo Resident Convenience Facility, where Song Mino worked, to measure the walking time. He confirmed that the workplace was just a 14-minute walk or 2-3 minute drive from Song Mino’s house, making it an exceptionally convenient commute.
Despite these favorable working conditions, allegations of inadequate service further fueled public outrage. Netizens criticized his contradictory attitude, leaving comments like: “Is reclaiming everyday life impossible? It’s shameful”, “Even elementary school children walk for 15 minutes”, “He should not be re-enlisted; he should be jailed for illegal conduct“…
Meanwhile, as the controversy continues, SBS investigative program “Curious Story Y” has started accepting tips related to the case. Furthermore, both the Military Manpower Administration and the police have launched internal investigations.
