On the morning of December 19th, DongA Ilbo had an interview with Hyun Bin for the release of his new film “Harbin” at a bar in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul. Appearing in a dandy, Hyun Bin entered the interview room with a bright expression and his signature dimpled smile.
“Harbin” chronicles the intense search and suspicion surrounding those who head to Harbin in 1909 with a single purpose and the people who chase them. Led by Ahn Jung-geun (Hyun Bin), the story begins as Woo Deok-soon (Park Jung-min), Kim Sang-hyun (Jo Woo-jin), Gong Bu-in (Jeon Yeo-bin), Choi Jae -hyung (Yoo Jae-myung) and Lee Chang-seob (Lee Dong-wook) join him as independence activists. To punish Ito Hirobumi, they head to Harbin and face challenges, such as the pursuit of the Japanese army.
Regarding the film, Hyun Bin shared, “Once filming is finished, the crew normally asks what the actors think. The execution scene was shot on the last day of shooting. As I shared what I felt, I simply sobbed. That feeling stayed with me for a long time. It would suddenly erupt for a while, then disappear and repeat for several days. I guess the pressure on my shoulders was a lot heavier than I thought. Suddenly my blood pressure dropped and I felt so overwhelmed.”
When asked if he would show the film to his son, the actor shared: “I’ll show it to my son. I completed this project at the same time my son was born. The day after the film was reviewed for screening, the baby was born. When I couldn’t be next to my son, I played the character of Ahn Jung-geun. I will definitely show it to him when he can watch the movie and think about it. I will explain to him that dad played such a beautiful character when he wasn’t next to him.”
Furthermore, the actor asked reporters during the interview, “At what age should I show the film to my child? I’m not sure. Haha”. Journalists responded “When he is in sixth grade”, “in high school”, etc., then Hyun Bin smiled and reacted, “Understood”.
Hyun Bin’s new film “Harbin” will premiere on December 24.
