IU had previously been reported to the CIA by an individual, who complained about the singer’s support of the impeachment protests in South Korea. Ultimately, a suspected YouTuber who openly revealed the composition of the letter faced backlash on social media for his actions.

On December 18, Americanparangi uploaded a video, titled “IU Reported to CIA in US.” The woman in the video said, “You guys know IU, right? The very famous singer? She supports people protesting against Yoon Suk Yeol.”

He continued:

“She’s even providing them with food and creating the atmosphere that they have to go out and protest, wow how kind and nice she is. I think she’s making people feel like they have to go out and protest because she wants Yoon impeached.”

“I wanted to help her too. I want her idea to get out to a lot of people, so I told the CIA what she’s doing. Not just me, I want you guys to report her too.”

Netizens were outraged by the YouTuber’s comments, prompting them to express their disdain on community forums.

“He is clearly mentally unstable,” one said.

A second commented: “She’s just looking for attention and points of view. Just don’t pay her any attention.”
