In 2020, during her appearance on MBC’s “Hangout with Yoo” as a member of SSAK3, Lee Hyori openly discussed her pregnancy plans, even jokingly asking for a box of pregnancy tests as a parting gift.
Later, when she returned to the show as part of “Refund Sisters”, Lee Hyori revealed, “This is a secret, but I’m preparing for pregnancy. I think I need to inform the members. The group will disband as soon as I get pregnant,” underlining his intentions with a humorous contractual condition.
However, two years later, on MBC Every1’s “That Man Who I Remember”, Lee Hyori shared her struggles with infertility. He stated, “I don’t want to get to the point of trying IVF. If it happened naturally I would be grateful, but it’s not easy.”
On the JTBC variety show “Mom, Do You Want to Take a Trip with Me?”, Lee Hyori expressed her desire to have children while watching the children on a trip, saying: “It would be nice to have a daughter like that, already grown up.” Her mother intervened, encouraging her to “get one”, but Lee Hyori replied, “I can’t now; It’s too late.”
His mother insisted “You should at least try like everyone else before saying it’s not possible” but Lee Hyori reiterated, “I don’t want to go through IVF.”
Recently, Lee Hyori’s mother-in-law and the mother of her husband, musician Lee Sang Soon, appeared on the YouTube channel “Life is Nothing Special” and shared thoughts about her daughter-in-law and son.
When asked if she would not have grandchildren and would like to have them, Lee Sang-soon’s mother said: “It would be nice to have grandchildren. It’s a good thing, but I’ve come to terms with it now because we’re getting older. He added, “When I visited their new house after the move, it was so spacious and beautiful. I thought, “It would be perfect for a child to grow up here.” The backyard would be great for raising kids. I really thought it would be wonderful to have a baby around.
He mentioned telling this to Lee Hyori, to which Hyori replied, “You’re right, Mom.” The mother-in-law added laughing: “Even though I gave up, I don’t know if they gave up on having a child.”
Reflecting on her first impression of Lee Hyori, the mother-in-law said, “Her first impression was good, but because she is so famous, I felt a little overwhelmed.” He continued, “But he has a way of being honest and creating a comfortable atmosphere, which eased the burden. Speak openly without hiding anything.” He also commented, “I wondered if someone as famous as her could really become my daughter-in-law.”
When asked who seems to love each other more between Lee Hyori and Lee Sang-soon, the mother-in-law said it was Lee Hyori. “From what I see, Hyori seems to love him more. My son doesn’t show his emotions much, but Hyori expresses her feelings 100%. You can tell everything just by looking at the way he talks and the way he looks at him,” he explained.
Interestingly, in a previous episode of KBS’s “The Korea Table,” health food researcher Park Jong-sook introduced various natural dishes. Next to her, Yoon Jeong-hee, Lee Hyori’s mother-in-law, attracted attention as she helped in the kitchen. Park Jong-sook said: “This is Lee Hyori’s mother-in-law. He loves cooking so much that he has been learning from me for over a year. When host Choi Bool-am asked her why she was learning to cook, Yoon Jeong-hee replied, “Since Hyori practices vegetarianism, I wanted to prepare natural dishes for her.”
After getting married in 2013, Lee Hyori and Lee Sang-soon lived in Jeju but recently moved to Pyeongchang-dong, Seoul. With their new beginning, the renewed interest in their family history has once again fascinated fans.
