Kim Soo-mi died on October 25 at the age of 75. She was rushed to St. Mary’s Hospital in Seoul in cardiac arrest but tragically did not survive. The cause of his death was reported as cardiac arrest induced by hyperglycemic shock.
Following her passing, a book containing Kim Soo-mi’s personal diary entries will soon be published, allowing the public to continue to connect with her life. Titled I appeal against everything that kills methe book collects key excerpts from his diaries spanning from 1983, when he was in his 30s, until his death in 2024. His intention was to share his philosophy and messages with troubled individuals and young people, and this posthumous publication honor his wishes.
The book reveals Kim Soo-mi’s heartfelt thoughts, written early in the morning, when she usually wrote in her diary. Among the revelations is a particularly poignant letter he wrote to the court earlier this year. In January, Kim Soo-mi and her son Jung Myung-ho were sued by processed food company Naphal Flower F&B, which sold products such as kimchi and soy-marinated crab, for violating the Law on Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes economic (misappropriation). The letter was addressed to the judge presiding over the case.
In her heartfelt plea, Kim Soo-mi wrote, “Honorable Judge, I sincerely ask you to understand our difficulties and help us solve the management problems we face, so that we can fulfill our social responsibilities as a healthy company.” His words, full of sincerity, evoke deep emotions and shed light on his struggles.
Earlier this year, Kim Soo-mi’s representatives clarified that her son Jung Myung-ho had been removed as CEO of Naphal Flower F&B since January and no longer had any connection to the company. The posthumous revelation of his letter and the emotions expressed have further amplified the pain surrounding his passing.
