KG’s lawsuit has triggered a strong debate among netizens, both international and Korean. While many international fans were in support of KG, international fans who have been K-Pop fans for a long time, as well as Korean netizens, while feeling sorry for KG’s plight, pointed out that this is all part of the typical System of K-Pop workout.

While things have improved in recent years, this was nothing new to many. Many companies assign internship debt to their interns, which is repaid through their work after debut. Before breaking even, many go unpaid or live on benefits. KG’s pay of $500 a week despite their lack of activity was reasonable for many.

The relentless training schedule until midnight after school ends was also something that many trainees in South Korea had to endure to achieve their dreams. STAYCNon-school members of had to endure a 10am to midnight schedule when they were interns.

  • Oh, so JYP has an American group too? Are they active now? This is really quite scandalous seen from a Western point of view.
  • I gasp.
  • In any industry, there is no one who reaches the top without such efforts.
  • It is true that the fan-apprentice culture in the idol industry is quite deformed.
  • K-Pop fans were already saying that Western kids wouldn’t be able to handle the K-Pop training system, but companies just didn’t listen LOL.
  • Honestly, the K-Pop system itself is a complete thing, and it’s only possible because the people in it were Korean.
  • It’s a total comedy how they thought it would fly over there.
  • Doesn’t JYP only treat female idols like this? TWICE’s Momo was also told to lose 7kg in 1 week and that week she only ate ice. It’s really disturbing.
