Teddy is known as the hitmaker behind the success of 2NE1 and BLACKPINK, but fans seem frustrated with the poor reception of his two girl groups, MEOVV and IZNA. Has he lost his touch?
Teddy, the founder of THEBLACKLABEL, has found himself in a hot spot due to his “flop” girl groups. In the past, the producer was famous as the “genius” behind BIGBANG, 2NE1, and BLACKPINK’s biggest hits while still under YG Entertainment.
However, after officially separating her label’s management from its parent company, she faced continued backlash after the lackluster launches of her girl groups, MEOVV and IZNA.
Starting with the first women’s team, MEOVV initially gained high expectations due to its popular members such as Ella Gross, who became famous as “Little Jennie”. But since their debut in September and return in November, the quintet has failed to create a hit, compared to rival fifth-generation group, ILLIT.
IZNA, which also became a hot topic before its debut, failed to attract the love of fans from the audience after presenting their debut stage at the MAMA AWARDS 2024. Viewers deemed the song and its concept unsuitable for them, considering their exceptional abilities and images.
While both groups have no shortage of talent, charm and personality, their “frustrating” discographies so far prevent them from gaining more supporters.
K-Media newspaper Ten Asia then criticized producer Teddy and asked him whether he was already losing his hit power, given that both groups do not appear in any music charts.

The first factor that fans are trying to understand why this happened is due to Teddy’s “rash” decision to debut two groups in a row.
The outlet wrote:
“Some say the quality of the songs has dropped because Teddy, who has never produced two bands at the same time and has a long cycle of releasing new songs, is leading two bands at the same time.”
Another reason is the sophisticated “outdated” concepts that Teddy is pushing.
“It’s time to take a look at what kind of song style audiences expect from a producer called ‘Teddy’ and what kind of song vibe suits each group, and start regrouping.”
