On the December 1st episode of TV Chosun’s Eh, a young man’s gastronomic journeyActress Kim Min-ha opened up about her meaningful bond with actor Seol Kyung-gu and her journey to becoming an actress.
Early life and beginning of career
Kim Min-ha joined the show’s host, Heo Young-man, to explore restaurants in Seobuk-gu, Cheonan. During the trip, Kim shared, “I was born in Seoul but lived in Bundang before returning to Seoul during high school. Now I live with my parents and I intend to stay with them as long as possible.”
When Heo noticed her freckles, he asked her if they were drawn. Kim replied: “No, they’re real. People ask me this often. I could hide them, but I kept them because I don’t see why I should hide them.
Revolutionary role in Pachinko
Kim gained international recognition through Apple TV Pachinko. Reflecting on her audition, she said: “When I first got the call to audition, I thought it was a scam. But as soon as I read the script, I cried: it was based on real life events.”
Her grandmother, however, was initially hesitant about her accepting the role. “I often asked her about her experiences since the character Sunja’s age and circumstances were similar to hers. He said, ‘Do you really have to do this? It’s too painful.” She thought that living such a difficult life meant that I would have to endure that pain myself. But later, she loved it and was so proud.
How Seol Kyung-gu encouraged her acting career
Kim revealed that Seol Kyung-gu, who was his neighbor, played an integral role in his decision to pursue acting:
“I decided to major in theater and film because of Kyung-gu ahjussi. He was the first person to encourage me to try it. No one else had told me this before.”
In a heartfelt video message to Seol, she added: “I have never thanked you properly, but I am truly grateful. We met recently at the Busan International Film Festival and it was an emotional moment for me. I hope to work alongside you one day and will continue to work hard until that day.”
Working with director Kim Hee-won
Kim also spoke about her experience in Lighting shopdirected by actor-turned-director Kim Hee-won. She described him as supportive and warm:
“He gave tailored guidance that built trust and consulted with me often. I relied on him a lot and he made me feel very cared for.”
