Rora, one of BABYMONSTER’s most extraordinary members, has had an inspiring and successful pre-debut journey as a child artist and apprentice. Her journey to debut in YG Entertainment’s latest girl group is a testament to her incredible skills and determination.

First beginnings
Rora first entered the spotlight on February 17, 2017, when she debuted her stage name Yoo ah as a member of U.SSO Girl, a K-idol group managed by Kids Planet. Among his group mates was Hyein, who later debuted with NewJeans. During her time in U.SSO Girl, Rora showcased her talent in singing and dancing, laying the foundation for her future in the K-pop industry.
In 2018, Rora expanded her career by working as a child model and actress alongside her child idol activities. She has appeared in several major dramas, such as A Korean odyssey AND Secret mothershowing his versatility and charm as a performer. His appearances in these dramas further solidified his presence in the entertainment industry.
Later in 2018, Rora’s journey took a significant turn when YG Entertainment discovered her via a direct message sent to her parents. At just 11 years old, she passed the audition and joined YG Entertainment as a trainee. He then spent six years undergoing rigorous training, perfecting his craft and preparing for his debut.
In 2023, Rora participated in BABYMONSTER’s Last ratingwhere she initially placed 6th and was excluded from the final lineup. However, the overwhelming support from fans made YG Entertainment founder Yang Hyun-suk reconsider his decision. Answering calls from the fandom, he included Rora in the group, allowing her to debut as a member of BABYMONSTER.
Debut with BABYMONSTER
On February 16, 2023, YG Entertainment released a video titled “BABYMONSTER – Introducing RORA” on the official BABYMONSTER YouTube channel.
Rora, an all-round member of BABYMONSTER, was selected as a YG trainee while promoting in a children’s girl group. Rora recalled his first month-end evaluation and couldn’t hide his regret, but Yang Hyun Suk praised Rora’s potential, saying: “I saw the potential. I was very sure that if we worked well on his voice, the result would be fantastic.”
In the September 2020 monthly evaluation, Yang Hyun Suk did not hold back any praise towards Rora, saying, “In my opinion your voice deserves 100 points considering your age. 100 points would be an understatement. The way you express emotions is fantastic.”
YG’s vocal coach also agreed and commented, “Rora already had a full voice and her sounds also resonate very well. He may be young, but he’s not young when it comes to expressing emotions through songs.”
Relentless effort combined with innate talent is Rora’s weapon. Regarding her growth, dance instructor Lee Jung said: “Rora has improved a lot. It’s the one that has improved the most during the two years I trained them.”
Furthermore, Rora looks innocent and cute, but has a hip-hop vibe, to the point that people wonder if it makes sense for her to be so good, Yang Hyun Suk said.
“I want people to feel happy after listening to my songs. Rather than being a ‘mini’ version of someone, I want to stay authentic as ‘RORA’. I want to become an artist who shines on stage like my name,” expressed Rora.
