On November 28, NewJeans held an urgent press conference in Gangnam, Seoul. During the event, the members announced their decision to terminate their exclusive contract with ADOR effective midnight on November 29th. The girl group also insisted that they will not pay the contract termination fee since it was ADOR who violated the contract and not them.
Here, Hyein said: “There is a possibility that the five of us will not be able to use the NewJeans name. However, the essence of NewJeans, represented by the five of us, will not change.”
He added firmly, “We have no intention of giving up the NewJeans name.”
“For some, this may seem like a simple name or branding issue. For us it is anything but simple. The name encompasses all the experiences we have had together since the day the five of us met for the first time. That’s why we will do everything we can to secure our rights to the NewJeans name.”continued the female idol.
At the same press conference, NewJeans also addressed former ADOR CEO Min Hee-jin, stating: “We are currently completing our previous programs and would like to continue working with Min Hee-jin if possible.”
Furthermore, when asked if they would like to convey any message to HYBE President Bang Si-hyuk, Minjin replied, “As mentioned above, we want to continue working with Min Hee-jin. Therefore, we have nothing to say to Bang Si-hyuk.”
Meanwhile, previously, on November 13, NewJeans had sent a warning to ADOR raising the possibility of terminating the exclusivity contract and specifying that the deadline was not November 28.
