On November 28, MEOVV appeared on SBS Power FM’s “Cultwo Show” to promote their new single album “TOXIC” and share stories about their journey since debuting as a group.
Explaining the name of the group, the girls said: “MEOVV stands for ‘My Eyes Open Wide’. It has various meanings, including the cute sound of a chic but adorable cat. The VV also symbolizes our stylish image and the fact that there are five of us.”
Host Kim Tae-kyun mentioned the group’s diverse background, to which Narin said, “Sooin and I were born in Korea.”
Meanwhile Anna added: “I’m from Japan and came here about a year ago,” surprising the audience. She shared, “I am from California, USA,” while Gawon revealed, “I have dual citizenship; I was born in the United States but I am Korean.
Debuting as the first girl group entirely produced by Teddy, who has worked with BIGBANG, 2NE1 and BLACKPINK, MEOVV garnered significant attention even before their debut.
When asked if they felt any pressure, the group admitted: “We felt some pressure, but this also motivated us to show our unique charm in a more special way.”
Kim Tae-kyun pointed out that the group is back with a comeback just 80 days after their debut. MEOVV presented their new single, explaining: “The album ‘TOXIC’ contains 2 title tracks with completely opposite vibes. “TOXIC” blends various vocal colors with minimalist sounds, making it perfect for snowy winter days.
Kim Tae-kyun also mentioned Narin’s tearful performance in the music video, asking her what she thought about while she cried. Narin replied, “A crying scene wasn’t originally planned.”
He added, “The song was so touching and Gawon and I helped write the lyrics. That emotional connection made me cry.
Describing the theme of the song, he said, “The lyrics honestly express a complicated relationship, conveying the contradictory feeling of needing someone despite a toxic connection.”
The conversation turned to Taeyang’s participation in their dance challenge and the choreography for their other title, “BODY,” created by Street Woman Fighter’s Lee Jung. When asked if the dancing was challenging, Anna admitted, “It was the hardest choreography we’ve done so far.”
Kim Tae-kyun mentioned Taeyang’s impressive ability to quickly learn dance for the challenge. The group revealed “He mastered it in just 10 minutes,” whereupon Kim Tae-kyun exclaimed, “Genius talent is really different!”
MEOVV recently released their second single, “TOXIC,” on November 18 and continue to actively promote their music.
