Kim Hye-soo Suffers Injury While Filming ‘Unmasked’: ‘Thigh Muscle Torn While Running’

On the morning of November 21 (local time), the Disney Content Showcase APAC 2024 took place at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.

Kim Hye-soo, Jung Sung-il and “Unmasked” director Yoo Seon-dong attended the event, interacting with press during a question-and-answer session.

“Unmasked” centers on a crew of investigative reporters who constantly cover cases that prosecutors and police have been unable to solve.

Kim Hye-soo, who plays team leader Oh So-ryong, explained the somewhat heavy topic.

We have incorporated realistic incidents, including fake news. We tried to lighten the tone with wit and remove some of the heaviness. Each episode has a different mood. While we aimed to make the messages easier and more pleasant to understand, the story we want to tell remains loud and clear.”

Kim Hye-soo also shared her thigh injury experience during filming. He recalled: “On a very cold winter day, I had to shoot a physically intense scene. I tore my right thigh muscle while running. I thought we could at least shoot me in the face since my leg was injured, but it turned out that wasn’t possible. I remember resetting everything and filming again. That scene ended up feeling very dynamic.”

Kim Hye-soo didn’t forget to praise Jung Sung-il, who stars alongside her. He said: “Sung-il is inherently cheerful and genuine. His performance in his previous work, “The Glory”, seems like the result of pure acting. In this project you’ll see another side of him: it may reflect aspects of his personality, but it’s also completely new. He’s a much deeper actor than I expected. At first he amazed everyone with his intense presence. The entire cast and crew were fascinated by his face and gaze.”

Jung Sung-il, who plays PD paratrooper Han Do, pointed out the contrast between the “crazy monster” label given to Kim Hye-soo’s character and Kim Hye-soo’s behavior in real life. He added: “However, the assertiveness and drive of his character are closely in line with his natural personality. She is incredibly frank and transparent, a truly genuine person.”

On the second day of the presentation, Disney+ revealed its upcoming lineup of Korean and Japanese content. Korean original series introduced included “Light Shop”, “Unmasked”, “Low Life”, “Hyper Knife”, “Knock Off” and “Nine Puzzle”.

“Unmasked” is scheduled to premiere in January next year.
