On November 16, KST, the Korean Big Music Awards 2024 held the first day of the awards ceremony, celebrating the best of Korean music across genres. Organized by Sports Ilganthe event brought together a star-studded lineup of K-Pop stars performing on stage.
On this day, New Jeans he won the best artist award and gave a heartfelt speech on stage. Members did not hesitate to address the ongoing conflict between MOVES and ex I LOVE IT CEO Min Hee Jin in their acceptance speech and also hinted at the uncertainty of their future as NewJeans.

During this speech, (G)I-DLE leader Soyeon was seen eagerly listening to the members of NewJeans from the artists’ section next to the stage. Netizens pointed out that hearing the phrase “NewJeans never die” made the senior idol cry immediately.

This reaction went viral on social media and Korean online communities. Netizens assumed that the phrase probably reminded the (G)I-DLE leader of their time of hardship, in which the group was facing similar struggles, which eventually led to the creation of their first studio album, I never die. Many also thought that Soyeon could likely relate the uncertainty of NewJeans’ future to that of her own group.
