Previously, DSP Media and BEATS Entertainment announced that YOUNG POSSE would release “songs of the winter season,” including “Street Carol… (With John Park)” and “Santa Claus is coming to the neighborhood.”
Netizens were alarmed and disappointed by the titles “Street Carol” and “Santa Claus is coming to Hood”, a new version of the classic Christmas carol “Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town”, as the K-Pop group strongly influenced by hip hop it “appropriates and makes fun of” black culture and stereotypes.
I’m just sad because they are talented, obviously their company created them 😭

DSP Media and BEATS Entertainment have now made a change.
The companies announced that they would no longer include the song “Santa Claus is coming to Hood” on YOUNG POSSE’s album after considering fans’ opinions. On the other hand, “Steet Carol,” a collaboration with John Park, will be released as scheduled on December 13, ahead of the group’s scheduled fan event. The cover has also been modified, changing the lyrics, “Santa Claus is coming to the neighborhood” TO “Listen to me, darling.”

Netizens respect the group’s hip-hop influence but wish they could continue to do so in the future without appropriating or “mocking” black culture.
