Legendary girl group Baby VOX recently reunited for a full group performance at the “2024 KBS Gayo Daechukje Global Festival” held at Ilsan KINTEX. This marked their first stage as full members in 14 years since their appearance in “Kim Jung-eun’s Chocolate” in 2010.
The group captivated the audience with flawless renditions of their iconic hits “Get Up” and “Coincidence”, which was the result of intense rehearsals that lasted until dawn for 2~3 weeks.
Kan Mi-youn humbly told Xports News: “I wondered if it was necessary to practice so much for one performance, but we worked hard and I think we did our best.“
He admitted: “It had been so long that we felt a lot of pressure. At first I thought it would take about three days, but in the end we didn’t have much time to all meet together. Hee-jin was rehearsing for another show and finished at 10pm, so we met late and rehearsed until dawn. Eventually, our passion grew and for the last week we met every day.”
He added: “It was around 2am, yet the fans were still there. I was so grateful and sorry at the same time. Hearing the fans cheer during “Killer” again after so long made me emotional. Fans from China also came, and there were also new fans. I saw a college student who became a fan after watching us on YouTube. It was touching to see both longtime and new fans waiting for us late into the night.”
Baby VOX’s lineup of Kim EZ, Kan Mi-youn, Shim Eun-jin, Lee Hee-jin and Yoon Eun-hye attracted a lot of attention at the festival. Yoon Eun-hye’s absence from Baby VOX’s previous activities had fueled rumors of disagreement, which were finally put to rest during this reunion.
In a brief meeting with fans, Yoon Eun-hye became emotional, saying “Our relationship isn’t bad. Every time rumors of feuding or bullying come up, I’m sorry. It’s not something I can fully explain” before crying.
In this regard, Kan Mi-youn explained: “Since Yoon Eun-hye was the youngest, she used formal language with us even then. To outsiders, her polite behavior might have seemed like she was being disciplined. The older members can also seem intimidating (laughs). As Eun-hye pursued her acting career and moved away from singing, it became harder for all of us to meet. When Eun-hye couldn’t attend due to scheduling conflicts, rumors of disagreements arose.”
He continued: “At first we insisted that it should be all five members, but then we thought it would still be fun to do something with three or four. Eun-hye also missed Eun-jin’s wedding due to overseas commitments, which led to further speculation. This time our schedules aligned and everything went smoothly.”
Reunited as a full group, Baby VOX performed “Killer” with girl group “Kiss of Life,” displaying chemistry that has transcended generations.
Kan Mi-youn shared: “We coordinated the choreography with Kiss of Life in just one day. The members of Kiss of Life were incredibly busy, flying in from abroad and practicing with us until late at night. Watching them train despite being tired reminded me of the old days. Even though we already knew the choreography, they had to learn it from scratch and were so nice and hardworking. Haneul, born in 2006, made me think of the days of our debut. They were diligent, kind and nice.”
With a performance reminiscent of their peak, fans are now curious about Baby VOX’s future plans.
Kan Mi-youn revealed: “If our schedules align, I’d love for us to do a concert. Preparing for a concert takes a lot of time, so we haven’t discussed it in detail yet. We also receive offers for events as a whole group. Even if nothing is decided, we are open to doing more if everything falls into place. None of us see this as “the last time”, so you will probably see more of it.”
