Kim Kim Keon Hee, wife of the former president Yoon Suk Yeol, has entered into isolation, marking a new phase of the explosive investigation on the accusations of corruption and manipulation of the actions that have shaken South Korea.
On August 14, Kim suffered his first interrogation since he was arrested on August 12 as part of a probe expanded in accusations of corruption, manipulation of actions and abuse of influence. His arrest was approved at the end of August 12 by the central district court of Seoul, with the chief judge Jeong Jae Wook that cites concerns about the potential destruction of the tests. The mandate was issued at 23:58 for violations of the capital markets act and other accusations.
Kim is held at the Soul Nambu detention center, a modern structure managed since 2011 and managed by a women’s guard. His prisoner number is reported as 4398, according to Chosun. It is housed in a solitary cell furnished only with a mat and a table for meals and work.
Unlike her husband – currently in service for about 100 days at the Soul detention center for alleged involvement in a conspiracy of martial law – this is the first experience of detention of Kim. To avoid contact with other prisoners, his training times for the bathroom and outdoors are staggered, allowing them for an hour a day except Sunday. Meals follow the guidelines for the standard prison, with a cost of about 1,500 victories (1.08 USD) each, reported Reuters. On the morning of August 14, his breakfast included Toast with jam, sausage and strawberry salad.
At 8:40 am of that day, Kim left the detention center in a vehicle from the Ministry of Justice, arriving at the Special Prosecutor in the KT Gwanghwamun West Building (District of Jongni, Seoul) at 9:52 am the interrogation began at 9:56 am, focusing on the accusations of improper interference in the elections and nominations to the candidates.
Although speculation was born that could skip the session due to bad health, Kim confirmed in advance that he would collaborate with investigators. The government registers show that most family resources, including their luxurious Soul apartment, are recorded under its name. Former judge and prosecutor Han Dong Soo, who previously worked with Yoon, described Kim not only a spouse but also the “strategic brain” behind his ascent to the presidency.
The South Korean media also reported on the prison conditions of the former President Yoon, confined to a solitary cell of 6.6 square meters without air conditioning or a bed, surviving standard prison meals and sleeping on a heated mat.
