Once known as the “Prince of Japanese dramas”, the actor Oguri Shun became famous throughout Asia after playing Hanazawa Rui in the success series Hana Yori Dango (guys on flowers). With his ethereal appearance and his calm charm, he became a dream man for countless fans and was greeted as one of the most beautiful stars in Japan.
However, the once a flawed image of the actor collapsed when his private life was exhibited in a scandalous accident in the karaoke room that shocked the entire nation.
A feeed wild karaoke party
On June 30, 2022, the Japanese entertainment industry was shaken after Oguri Shun’s explicit photos emerged online, presumably taken during a Karaoke Rauca party. The images, which show the actor in a compromising state, have been leaked by the notorious YouTuber Yoshikazu Higashani well known for having expressed the private life of celebrities.
“He was dancing, kissing women and behaved wildly while drunk even stripped his clothes. How can such a man call himself a role -playing model or a family man?” Higashani criticized in his broadcast.
According to NHK, the party took place in an exclusive Karaoke Lounge located in a luxury resort in Hiroshima. Reports reported that at least three men and four women participated in the event all night. Presumably, a participant took photos of Oguri Shun’s behavior and later sold to Higashani.
The Exposé has become viral through social media, leaving fans amazed.
Ruin reputation
Following the loss, according to HigashiTani reported 74,000 USD (₩ 100 million / ¥ 11 million) for the release of the scandal. Infuriated, Oguri Shun faced the acquaintance who had sold the images, feeling deeply betrayed by someone who considered a dear friend.
This was not the first controversy of the actor. In 2014, he was captured in a scandal of infidelity, accused of secretly met two women in a hotel while his wife, Model Yamada Yu, was nine months pregnant. Later, another woman said she possessed a “sex tape” with the actor and tried to sell it for 20,000 USD, although no outlet confirmed the authenticity of the movie.
With more sexual scandals and business that emerge over the years, the image of Oguri Shun as ideal husband and gentleman of Japan has been destroyed beyond repair.
Imploring forgiveness
Oguri Shun married Yamada Yu in 2012 after four years of appointments and the couple shares three children. Once admired as Japan’s “golden couple”, their marriage almost collapsed after the karaoke scandal.
After the story broke out, Yamada Yu brought their children to the United States to escape the frenzy of the media and refused to communicate with her husband.

In the end, Yamada Yu agreed to return to Japan and continue their marriage, although the professionals say that their relationship has never been the same.
The consequences
