The 2024 SBS Drama Awards will take place on December 21 at the SBS Prism Tower in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul. Shin Dong-yeop, Kim Hye-yoon and Kim Ji-yeon will be the MCs of this event.
Among the three major Korean TV companies, the SBS Drama Awards nominations arouse the highest anticipation from drama fans.
Except for “The Escape of the Seven”, which disappointed fans with slow performances, most of the projects released by SBS this year, from “Flex X Cop” to “Connection”, “Good Partner”, “The Judge from Hell” and “The Fiery Priest 2”, gained enormous attention from the public.
Due to the success of SBS dramas, it is more difficult to say which actors or projects will be honored this year. Looking back at last year’s awards ceremony, the SBS Drama Award received criticism from viewers for having too many joint awards. There was more than one winner for Daesang and 7 winners for Best New Actor.
Notably, the highly anticipated Daesang was supposed to honor the most impressive candidate’s performance, however, SBS handed the trophy to both Lee Je-hoon and Kim Tae-ri. This decision led to an unexpected scene in which the two actors play rock-paper-scissors to decide which person will give the acceptance speech first.
Criticism worsened after the Best New Actor was announced. Kang Yoo-seok, Kwon Ah-reum, Kim Do-hoon, Yang Hye-ji, Lee Shin-young, Lee Hong-nae and Jung Soo-bin were nominated for Best New Actor. Knowing the significance of this precious award, which debut actors can only receive once in their career, fans were completely surprised when all the nominees became winners. Aside from that, reactions to announcements in other categories, such as Best Actor, Best Drama, etc., have been negative.
Due to last year’s controversial event, many SBS fans are raising concerns about this year’s awards ceremony. The nominees for Daesang at the 2024 SBS Drama Award are “Connection” Ji Sung, “Good Partner” Jang Na-ra, “The Judge from Hell” Park Shin-hye and “The Fiery Priest 2” Kim Nam-gil. The focus is whether SBS will regain its reputation as a prestigious drama awards ceremony this year.
