Along with these details, the actress also spoke at length about her health problems, paying particular attention to her mental ones over the years. Starting in 2019, Zhao Lusi said he began experiencing symptoms of depression, and in 2021, he sought treatment after his anxiety manifested itself in physical symptoms.

These physical manifestations continued into 2023 and worsened into 2024, causing dizziness and joint pain, among other symptoms.

In 2019 I started experiencing depressive symptoms. People said, “Don’t make a big deal out of it,” or “Think positively and everything will be fine.” I thought I was overly sensitive and didn’t take my mental health seriously.

In 2021, I started feeling like bugs were crawling on me, accompanied by stinging sensations and allergies. Even after taking medications and giving injections, the symptoms did not improve. I finally looked for a psychologist to help me manage my anxiety.

In 2023, I faced pneumonia, emphysema, pityriasis rosea, hives, night sweats, sudden awakenings, and nervous deafness. I also dealt with the passing of a loved one and multiple cancer diagnoses within the family, all in a short time. However, the scale of events overshadowed my emotions and I continued to neglect myself.

It wasn’t until 2024 that I started experiencing severe physical symptoms such as frequent retching, dizziness, joint pain, and worsening allergies. I thought these were normal side effects of targeted allergy medications.

In the post, Zhao Lusi appears to openly state that he suffers from depression and warns against preconceptions about the disease, expressing hope that he can spread awareness.

I had never mentioned my illness publicly before because I didn’t want it to be labeled as a “publicity stunt.” However, given the current circumstances, I hope this can raise awareness.

Feeling depressed may be an emotion, but depression as an illness is a medical condition. It cannot be solved by simply “thinking positively” or “talking about it openly”. To those who share my feeling of being “truly understood”: whether others understand or not is no longer important. What’s worse is being trapped in a cycle of endless explanations and not being able to save yourself. Understanding mental health and prioritizing mental health care is incredibly important.

Regret is a useless emotion. “So take this ‘special moment’ as an opportunity to free yourself from the inner conflicts of the past and rebuild yourself.”

He also revealed his official diagnosis of dissociative disorder with anxiety in what appeared to be discharge documents, along with his treatment plan, which appears to include therapy, counseling and medication. According to the Mayo Clinic, dissociative disorders are “mental health conditions that involve experiencing a loss of connection between thoughts, memories, feelings, environment, behavior and identity”, and can be caused by trauma.

This document also included a diagnosis of malnutrition. In another post, Zhao Lusi revealed that her weight was once down to just 36.7kg, but she gained weight with the help of her parents.

I wasn’t able to take a photo of my current weight in time. Under my parents’ strict supervision, my weight increased to 41 KG, please don’t worry! Before this, I didn’t even have time to go on a diet and always maintained my weight. They prepare nutritious meals for me every day and blame themselves for it.

Along with the post, the actress shared other updates, including some in which she showed she was eating independently and walking, with her condition improving.

Given that mental health is a topic that is still not discussed openly and is surrounded by misconceptions, it is surprising that Zhao Lusi opened up about her health in this way.
