What made America’s Immortal Songs concert the ‘worst K-Pop event ever’

In the summer of 2023, KBS’s popular music program Immortal songs announced a special live concert in the United States. Originally scheduled to take place at New York’s MetLife Stadium, the event promised a star-studded lineup including ATEEZ, NewJeans and PSY.

However, what was intended as a historic K-Pop showcase quickly turned into what many have since called “worst K-Pop concert ever.” The first signs of trouble appeared with disappointing ticket sales, forcing organizers to move the venue. The change also meant that NewJeans would no longer perform, leaving fans frustrated with having to exchange tickets and adjust to a new schedule.

Despite fears of further cancellations, the rest of the artists remained committed. However, problems persisted. Attendees reported that the soundcheck, a perk for VIP ticket holders, was drastically shortened, with ATEEZ only able to rehearse one song instead of the usual three or four.

Technical problems plagued the concert itself. Fans noted screen projection malfunctions, sound dropouts, and inconsistencies in the stage setup. Timing was another big complaint: while the concert was supposed to end by 11pm, ATEEZ hadn’t finished their set and PSY didn’t take the stage until around 11.40pm.

Another point of contention was the VIP “farewell” benefit. Traditionally held in a smaller, controlled space for close interactions, the Immortal songs the salute took place on the main stage, causing overcrowding and safety concerns as fans rushed forward. Organizers had reportedly planned a separate room, but time constraints made this impossible.

Despite the logistical and technical inconveniences, fans praised the artists for their performances. Many, however, have expressed reluctance to attend future events promoted by Studio PAV, citing the chaotic performance of this concert.

THE Immortal songs The U.S. concert serves as a warning of how even high-profile K-Pop events can face unexpected challenges when planning, logistics and communication fail.
