Was BLACKPINK’s rosé alluding to her past controversies when she said she wanted to clear up misunderstandings?

During the interview, Rosé shared insights into her journey in preparation for her first solo album, Rosieand the emotional highs and lows he encountered as an artist. He expressed a desire to reveal a more personal and honest side to his fans, describing the album’s theme as a representation of the “terrible twenties”. He noted, “Ultimately, I want people to understand me and stop misunderstanding me as a person too,” indicating her desire to address the speculation that has surrounded her.

Rosé’s remarks are particularly poignant given her recent experiences with controversy, including rumors from China last year linking her to drugs and rumors of an affair with actor Kang Dong-won.

Previously, Rosé was rumored to be dating Kang Dong-won, who is 16 years older than her. Fans and Internet users pointed to “couple items” such as matching necklaces and outerwear, as well as the fact that they were spotted together at an art fair at COEX in Seoul, as potential signs of a relationship. Speculation intensified when they appeared in group photos at recent fashion events. YG Entertainment, his agency, did not confirm or deny the rumors, instead issuing a statement that it was a “private matter.” This ambiguous response led fans to speculate further, drawing more attention to the age difference between Kang Dong-won, born in 1981, and Rosé, born in 1997.

YG Entertainment, known for keeping quiet about artists’ personal lives, finally addressed the rumors directly to put an end to the speculation. The agency said “We confirm that the Rosé dating rumors are not true. We would appreciate your help in preventing the spread of misinformation.” They added, “While we previously noted that this was a private matter for the artist, due to incessant speculation, we are issuing this clarification.”

The agency has also taken a firm stance against drug rumors that originated in China, sparked by photos that some people used as “evidence.” Fans moved quickly to debunk the rumors, and when they spread to South Korea, YG stepped in to address the situation.

In response to these allegations, YG stated: “The rumors about Rosé are completely false. We are taking legal action against activities that violate the rights of our artists and damage their reputations. We are currently monitoring those responsible for creating and spreading these rumors and will proceed without leniency.”

Looking ahead, Rosé assured fans that she intends to present her “true self” through her music, saying that she is ready to bring a unique experience to her fans, one that goes beyond her role as a member of BLACKPINK and highlights his individual voice as an artist.
