The 2025 New Year celebration hosted by Hunan TV on December 31 was criticized for its organizational problems. The most infuriating incident involved Wang Yibo’s performance, in which the singer-actor was hanged 50 meters high.
In particular, since Wang Yibo’s performance featured various aerial movements, such as somersaults, the singing actor was secured with a safety cable. However, during the show, netizens discovered that the cable on one side of Yibo was completely unlocked, meaning that the actor-idol was in danger of falling from a height of 50 meters.
This oversight left live audiences and spectators across China in suspense, fearing a dangerous accident during Wang Yibo’s mid-air rotations and maneuvers. Fortunately, his performance ended without incident.
According to 163 News, the reason for the unlocked cable was that event staff simply… forgot to lock it. The media also reported that Wang Yibo himself had questioned the staff about their negligence, but, surprisingly, the staff member responsible did not apologize and instead responded with indifference, saying: “Oh, yes, I forgot.”
This incident has sparked outrage among the public, who are demanding an explanation from Hunan TV and severe disciplinary action against the personnel responsible for Wang Yibo’s security during the show. It has also become the top entertainment topic of the new year.
Meanwhile, a few hours before the event, the stage elevator at the Hunan TV headquarters malfunctioned and had to be temporarily repaired. Furthermore, during a rehearsal the day before, Victoria Song slipped on the slippery floor of the stage and injured her left arm, leaving her unable to move it fully during her official performance on December 31.
Furthermore, Hunan TV was criticized for allowing lip-syncing during the live broadcast, despite a ban by the National Radio and Television Administration. The controversy erupted when Chen Zheyuan forgot to hold the microphone while his part of the song was played.
So far, Hunan TV has yet to respond to the series of incidents that occurred during the year-end music event.
