Veteran actor Benz Hui remembered with tears by TVB stars at farewell ceremony

Beloved Hong Kong actor Benz Hui he was buried during a Buddhist ceremony in Tai Wai on 17 November. The heartfelt farewell sparked an outpouring of emotion from family, fans and industry legends, many of whom had worked alongside the actor during his prolific five-decade career.

Hui’s daughter, Hui Wai Chinghe spoke with deep emotion, promising to fulfill his father’s last wish: to care for his mother and their extended family. “I am proud to be your daughter” she said, expressing regret that he died before she could give him the joy of becoming a grandfather.

TVB actor Miou wateraccompanied by his wife, former actress Jaime Chik, struggled to hold back tears. He recalled having lunch with Benz Hui shortly before his condition worsened. “He didn’t mention his illness” Miu said. “I only found out when his wife called.” When Miu visited the hospital, Hui was in a coma. During interviews, Miu turned towards the wall, silently wiping away tears. “He was always genuine, full of life and deeply loved people,” he said.

Charmaine Sheh he also attended and referred to Hui as a father figure. “He treated me with warmth and kindness. He wasn’t just a senior actor: he was part of my family,” said Sheh, who often played his daughter on screen.

Other notable participants included Nick Cheung, Bosco Wong, Kenneth Ma, Nancy Wu, Michael MiùAND Louis Cheung. Nick Cheung praised Hui’s exceptional ability to elevate each project, noting that although Hui often played supporting roles, his performances made the protagonists shine.

From 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm local time, the ceremony was open to the public. Hundreds had lined up early to pay their respects. A fan said: “I grew up watching his dramas. He felt like part of our family.”

Inside the funeral hall, portraits of Benz Hui have been on display, including his memorable “Happy Sir” look. Walker line. A central floral tribute from his wife read: “To my beloved husband Benz, I will forever cherish your love.” Star garlands included Jackie Chan, Louis Koo, Raimondo Lam, Tavia YeungAND Lisa Wang surrounded the room.

In a final act of kindness, Hui’s family announced that all funeral donations would go to a charity supporting children with cancer, an extension of the actor’s legacy of compassion.

Benz Hui died on October 28 at the age of 77 after a battle with cancer. Known as “Benz” for driving a Mercedes-Benz on TVB sets, long before that became common, he built a name for himself through grit, not family connections.

In a 53-year career that has spanned nearly 200 television and film roles, Benz Hui has become a cornerstone of Hong Kong entertainment. From righteous mentors to cunning villains, his performances have captivated generations. As critics have noted, he was one of TVB’s best character actorsoffering unforgettable roles in series such as The Sword of Heaven and the Dragon Saber (1986) AND Walker line.
