It was to celebrate J-Hope’s upcoming discharge.
American rock band Vampire Weekend it’s on theirs Tour 2024 “Only God Was Above Us”. They recently performed at the Red Hat Amphitheater in Raleigh, NC on October 9th.
Ezra Koenig read a sign that reads, “BTS J-Hope will be released from federal custody in exactly 1 week. Please cover ‘Dynamite’ to celebrate?” Ezra knew that J-Hope would be discharged from mandatory military service, so he attempted to comply with the request.
Ezra knew it wasn’t Taio Cruz“Dynamite”, but he wasn’t very familiar with BTS’ “Dynamite”. He seemed to know “Butter” better. However, he and the band attempted to give their best coverage. Ezra also gave a shout out to J-Hope.

The video went viral on TikTok and X (formerly Twitter). Netizens failed to ignore the ARMY’s signal, claiming that J-Hope would be released from “federal custody.”
While concertgoers had to try to help Ezra remember the lyrics to “Dynamite,” fans appreciated his good-natured attitude and attempted to cover the song, even though he wasn’t sure he knew it.
This wouldn’t be the first time we’ve seen an unexpected crossover between the two bands. In May, Ezra praised the BTS leader RM for nine minutes on his podcast after reacting to RM’s sharing of Vampire Weekend’s “Capricorn” via Instagram.
“RM isn’t just a member of BTS… he’s one of the organization’s major creative forces. maybe as one of the songwriter-producers, (…) so I always heard specific things about RM and RM’s creativity…” – ezra koenig of indie rock band ‘vampire weekend’ on RM in his podcast pic.twitter.com/539uf88WxZ
