Since their debut, NewJeans have seen their worldwide popularity skyrocket, aided by catchy songs and visually appealing concepts. Notably, NewJeans have become the poster image for Y2K in K-Pop and similar youth imagery, although they were not the first to realize the concepts.
Recently, however, many have found the concept and artwork of a newly debuted group too similar to NewJeans.
The first images of the members of TOP Media’s new girl group, STRANGE YOUTHwere released on September 18, 2024. The group immediately attracted attention due to the inclusion of popular Girls Planet 999 competitor Guinn Myah.
Based on the group’s name and logo, it was easy to assume that they would opt for more youthful concepts, seen in the first teasers of their song “Best Friendz”.

In the days leading up to the release of “Best Friendz,” ODD YOUTH shared teaser images featuring the group. The first image shows the five members as the only ones in color in a photo, while the other is a group photo from a lower angle.
Many recalled NewJeans in quotes from the group’s tweets, accusing the group’s company of “stealing” NewJeans’ previous concepts.

On the other hand, many felt that the concept was not owned by NewJeans but was made by many other groups.
