The ex’s fans BIG BANG member SUPERIOR (also known as Choi Seung Hyun) teased the role of the idol actor in the second season of Netflixthe hit series Squid game.
TOP played Player 230, Thanos, a retired rapper who lost everything in a cryptocurrency scam. Another characteristic of Thanos is that he is eccentric and appears to abuse substances.
In an interview with PEOPLEdirector Hwang Dong Hyuk acknowledged that the character shares some similarities with T.O.P. Although both T.O.P. and his character are rappers, Hwang also noted that this role is a comeback for T.O.P. after his previous drug scandal. In July 2017, TOP was sentenced to 10 months in prison and a two-year suspension from mandatory military service after being found guilty of marijuana use.
I feel like it took a lot of courage for him, in a way, to play a character, especially someone who shares a lot of similarities that are quite negative even for him as a person. So I think it took a lot of courage for him to take on that role.
Despite the long hiatus, I have to say that, as a director, he performed very impressively and I am very satisfied with what he did with the character.

Now, Thanos has revealed how he intentionally portrayed his character, although many netizens joked that TOP was released without a script.

TOP explained that he actually attempted to deliver his lines as authentically as possible. Many saw him as comic relief amidst the dark show, but TOP really didn’t want to appear to be that “too lighthearted or comical” but rather “unpredictable and with a couple of screws loose.”
Since I’m a rapper myself, I tried to deliver the lines as naturally as possible without being too lighthearted or comedic. My personal goal was to show viewers a character they had never seen before: someone mysterious, unpredictable and with a couple of loose screws.
