Hyoyeon expressed her dismay at junior idols’ lack of manners and compared the current generation to the previous K-pop era.
On November 29, Koyote Bbaek Ga, who joined SBS powerFM’s “Cultwo Show” as a special DJ, met fellow HOT artists Lee Jae Won and Girls’ Generation Hyoyeon. There they talked about idol culture then and now.
Hyoyeon addressed the younger generations, saying:
“When we were interns, people handed us food. We always bowed at a 90-degree angle towards them. We bowed at a 90-degree angle when we opened the door, you punk!”
To be polite and make the delivery guys’ job easier, the “Gee” singer added that they would also clean up all the food to make it look like they did the dishes.
With this, she raised the issue of kids lacking manners, but apologized for being old-fashioned. However, the two first generation idols agreed with Hyoyeon on how important greetings are.
To delve deeper into the topic, Lee Jae Won had the female star talk about her experience with junior idols in music shows.
In particular, it was a K-pop culture in the past for young people to visit their elders’ waiting rooms to greet them and sometimes give them their albums as gifts.

Bbaek Ga then shared that while he was initially overwhelmed by the thought of junior groups lining up to bow to them, he now finds it strange that no one does this nowadays except producers.
Hyoyeon agreed that she also feels uncomfortable with boys coming up to her for greetings, but clarified that she was referring to instances where she randomly bumped into them in the hallways.
He said:
“When you walk through the hallways, I think there should be eye contact or at least a nod. But these days they don’t even make eye contact. They don’t say hello at all.”
