Han Hye-kyung’s story, infamous as “Fan Lady”, will be revisited in SBS’ latest episode Story of the day you bite your tailairing January 8. Titled “The Lost Name, Han Hye-kyung,” the episode will delve into her life, her obsession with beauty and the devastating consequences of illegal cosmetic procedures.
Han Hye-kyung once had stunning looks and aspired to become a charismatic singer. However, driven by this ambition, she underwent repeated unlicensed cosmetic surgery. Eventually, she began injecting substances such as industrial silicone, paraffin oil, and even cooking oil directly into her face, causing severe disfigurement, hallucinations, and psychosis.
Her story first attracted national attention when it was featured on the SBS show Capture the moment: how it’s possiblewhich achieved a staggering 31% viewership rate. Despite her altered appearance, few knew the deeper personal story of a woman who simply wanted to follow her dream.
Actors Kim Hee-jung, Bae Myung-jin and director Bang Eun-jin join the episode as listeners. Kim expressed deep sorrow, commenting, “His life seemed unbearably difficult due to the side effects.”
Han’s older sister and brother-in-law also appear in the episode to share touching memories of his efforts to pursue a singing career.
