A video titled “Shocking Exclusive! Why Child Support? The story of Yulhee and Choi Minhwan’s hellish divorce” was uploaded to Lee Jin-ho’s YouTube channel “Entertainment President Lee Jin-ho” on October 23.
Lee Jin-ho pointed to differences in their daily routines and views on education as the main reasons for their divorce. Yulhee, as she had mentioned in a previous couples counseling program, had a strong passion for education, investing up to 8 million won per month in educational expenses. However, she had difficulty getting up early and found it difficult to take care of her children. Choi Minhwan was mainly responsible for driving the children to and from school, and when he performed, Minhwan’s parents helped him with child care.
According to Lee Jin-ho, the COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on their marriage. FT Island’s business has slowed due to the pandemic, which has negatively affected the family’s finances. Meanwhile, Yulhee has become busier with her influencer activities, leading to more tension. One day, Yulhee left home for four or five days, causing the conflicts to escalate further.
Lee Jin-ho admitted that he didn’t know why Yulhee left home. He initially thought their relationship had improved when she returned, but news of their divorce broke soon after.
Recently, Yulhee appeared on Chosun’s “All By Myself” TV show, where she expressed her feelings about the divorce, saying that she wasn’t the first to bring up the topic. Reflecting on the early days of her marriage, she fondly recalled the happy memories and said, “If it weren’t for the kids, I wonder if I would have ever laughed in my life.” He revealed that the crisis hit their fourth year of marriage and that the divorce happened suddenly. Yulhee confessed that she endured a long period of pain before accepting the divorce, shedding tears as she spoke.
Lee Jin-ho explained that Yulhee gave up custody of the children for “economic and practical reasons,” a decision made possible thanks to Choi Minhwan and his parents’ dedicated approach to child care.
According to Lee Jin-ho, Choi Minhwan granted flexible visitation rights, allowing the children to meet Yulhee freely. Furthermore, Minhwan accepted the divorce without asking for child support. Yulhee also waived the right to any division of assets.
Choi Minhwan and Yulhee married in 2018. They had a son and twin daughters, but divorced in December last year after five years of marriage. Choi Minhwan, who has custody of the three children, currently appears in KBS2’s “The Return of Superman,” while Yulhee shares her single life in “All By Myself.”
