According to SBS Entertainment News, director and screenwriter Lee Jung-sub has been reported to authorities by a legal team representing a coalition of Kim Soo-hyun’s fans. Law firm Doa confirmed that it had received a notice from the Gangnam police station in Seoul stating that the case had been forwarded to the prosecutor’s office after investigators determined that the charges had merit.
The complaint alleges that Lee circulated statements on social media in which he described Kim Soo-hyun as a “child sex offender” which according to the accusers seriously damaged the actor’s reputation. Police reportedly concluded that the allegations warranted prosecution. However, the postponement does not indicate guilt, as prosecutors will now review the case and determine whether to formally charge Lee.
Lee continued to post the controversies surrounding Kim Soo-hyun and the film online Trueas well as allegations related to the late actress Kim Sae-ron. He also raised allegations suggesting collusion between the entertainment industry, media and legal circles. In several posts, Lee allegedly shared other users’ accusations against Kim Soo-hyun by adding comments such as “the same operation”.
Previously, Lee commented on the production process of Truestressing that he had no official legitimacy to provide explanations because he was not credited as the film’s director. The 2017 film faced production difficulties after Lee resigned during the final stages.
The broader controversy intensified following Kim Sae-ron’s sudden death on February 2. His grieving family later made allegations through a YouTube channel, including claims of dating underage girls. Kim Soo-hyun’s side denied the allegations and has since filed lawsuits for defamation, false accusations and violations of the law for stalking. The actor has also filed a civil lawsuit, reportedly seeking damages worth around KRW 12 billion.
The outcome of Lee Jung-sub’s case will depend on the prosecution’s investigation and legal interpretation moving forward.
