The only non-HYBE artist supported by the label is “Anti-feminist” and caters to “Incel” fans

While K-pop girl groups like aespa and NMIXX were heavily criticized in HYBE’s internal report, the only girl band praised by the label recently gained attention online for all the wrong reasons.

Recently, the world of K-pop has been in turmoil after HYBE, the parent company of affiliated labels Pledis, Source Music, ADOR, Belift Lab and others, was caught sabotaging its idols and competing artists.

With the release of HYBE’s 18,000-page internal report to the public, K-Netz and fans were surprised at how the only team that was praised by the company amidst a pool of hateful comments was QWER.

The four-member group was formed through the YouTube series “QWER show”, which aimed to build a team composed of well-known online personalities: Chodan, Magenta, Hina and Siyeon.

Since their debut in October 2023, the quartet’s music has stood out as being heavily influenced by elements of the rock genre and has risen up the charts with the songs “TBH” and “Discord.”

In the internal report, HYBE mentioned QWER while disparaging TripleS.

“Amazingly, even though it’s a project created to please fellow ‘incel’ fans, QWER had at least one ‘growing up’ storyline via the manual sync phase at the LoL World Cup pre-event.”

In the qoo, K-Netz couldn’t help but laugh in disbelief. They wrote that they were not even surprised that HYBE showed support for a group with a history of “anti-feminism”, fueled by “incel” fans.

In April, Chodan was heavily criticized for publicly detesting feminists and calling them “crazy bitches.”

In the same month, her co-member Siyeon was also embroiled in controversy for implying that women “only get married to fulfill their duty to give birth.”

People said it’s no wonder that HYBE, who has said misogynistic comments about other K-pop girl groups celebrating “sissies,” will support QWER.

In the online community, netizens wrote:

  • “Bang Si Hyuk is a fanboy.”
  • “It’s surprising how consistent your tastes are.”
  • “They fit so well with each other.”
  • “Actually, as soon as Bang Si Hyuk saw QWER, he directly contacted the producer (to recruit) *sarcasm*”
  • “Are most QWER songs not written by HYBE composers, except Jeon Soyeon’s new song? They always keep linking them with some idol band to promote them, but after seeing this, I really have a royal feeling.”
