On December 20, Disney+ announced that “Light Shop” had the highest viewership of all Korean original content released this year.
This achievement is eye-catching as it follows the huge success of last year’s hit series “Moving.”
“Light Shop,” released sequentially from December 4 to 18, tells its story in a light shop located at the end of a dark alley, the only space that radiates light in the area.
Each of the shop’s visitors hides secrets, and as their stories unfold, the narrative becomes increasingly tense and compelling.
The series is based on the webtoon of the same name by Kang Full, who also participated in the screenplay, preserving the emotions and messages of the original.
The webtoon, which debuted in August 2011 and ended in December of the same year, gained popularity for its fresh concept and creepy atmosphere.
The dramatic adaptation stays true to the webtoon’s unique traits, while enhancing the genre’s appeal with visually stunning direction.
Director Kim Hee-won, a former actor, provided a distinctive directorial style that effectively translated the emotions and suspense of the webtoon into a cinematic experience.
The stellar cast, including Ju Ji-hoon, Park Bo-young, Kim Seol-hyun, Bae Seong-woo, Uhm Tae-goo, Lee Jung-eun and Kim Min-ha, elevated the quality of the drama. Their passionate performances deepened viewers’ immersion in the story.
