A 20 -year -old Korean man who attempted to kill a supermarket cashier after he mistakenly believed he was insulted was sentenced to seven years in prison … a decision that triggered a public backlash.
The accident occurred on May 26 last year in the Hoengseong county. The 29 -year -old man returned to a local supermarket with a weapon after mistakenly think that the cashier of the shift in the morning had called him “crazy”. Then he approached a 56 -year -old woman who was conquering the afternoon round and stabbed her 27 times in the face, neck and head.
Despite the brutality of the attack, the victim survived after receiving emergency care. However, it continues to suffer from serious post-traumatic stress disorder, with doctors say that recovery is unlikely.
According to the courts of the court, the author was raged after believing he had been missed compared to the cashier at the beginning of the day. He returned home, took a weapon and returned to the shop to perform the attack. When he asked where the previous cashier was, the victim replied that he had gone to lunch, but the man misunderstood and immediately became violent.
The Chuncheon branch of the upper court of Seoul confirmed the original sentence this week, sentenced him to seven years in prison, five years of supervised freedom and compulsory psychiatric care. The Court recognized that he had a mental illness and no previous criminal history, which took place in the sentence.
However, the sentence was accepted with widespread criticisms online.
