The legendary idol’s husband risks a prison sentence for fraud

Reportedly on October 31, first-generation idol and actress Sung Yuriher husband and professional golfer, Ahn Sung Hyun, faces a prison sentence on charges of soliciting tens of billions of won under the guise of listing a virtual currency.

On October 29, during the sentencing hearing at the Seoul Southern District Court, the prosecution reportedly asked for seven years in prison for Ahn. Additionally, they demanded a fine of KRW 2.00 billion (about $1.45 million), confiscation of its luxury watches, and a surcharge of KRW 1.50 billion (about $1.09 million).

Lee Sang Joonthe CEO of Bithumb Securitieshe was also indicted with Ahn. The prosecution asked for a five-year prison sentence, the forfeiture of ₩30.5 million KRW (approximately $22,100 USD) and a [krw[ 1.525 billion [/krw] supplement for him.

Ahn and Lee are accused of embezzlement in collaboration with Kang Joong Hyunthe actress’s controversial ex-boyfriend Min Young Park. The two allegedly received tens of billions of won from Kang between September and November 2021 in exchange for a request to list the “A” coin on the Bithumb Exchange. The prosecution said the two received [krw] 3 billion [/krw] in cash, two luxury watches worth ₩400 million KRW (approximately $290,000 USD), and a high-end restaurant membership card worth ₩11.5 million KRW (approximately $8,340 USD) from Kang and Song, an official of the coin issuing company.

Furthermore, Ahn Sung Hyun is also accused of deceiving Kang and embezzling KRW 2.00 billion (approximately US$1.45 million) separately in violation of the Law on Aggravation of Specific Economic Crimes.

Ahn and Lee were tried without detention last year in September. The Supreme Court is expected to proceed with the ruling on December 26.
