I heard about the incident two years ago as we were finishing post-production recording for the film’s release. To be honest, I hated it. I was very angry and resentful.

I believe he needs to take full responsibility for his actions and take time to reflect and learn from them.

He explained it while “[he] I couldn’t eliminate Kwak Do Won’s character,” he removed what he could.

The director also admitted that he too saw Kwak Do Won’s persistent appearance in the film as a “risk” and that he wasn’t sure how to answer questions about the problem actor. Having to release the film with such a risk factor, I wasn’t really sure how to respond if I received questions about actor Kwak Do Won. But I recently met a firefighter and told him how I felt. He told me “Sir, when we go to fight fires, we don’t go in alone; we work as a team. You’ve got the rest of the cast fighting with you, so stay strong.’ I drew a lot of strength from those words.

Korean moviegoers are praising the director’s response, urging more companies to include a compensation clause in their contracts for scandals that compromise production in any way.
