On August 13, the Court ordered the former member of Kenshin Kamimura to pay 15,000 HKDs (about 2.63 million KRW) after having considered it guilty of indecent aggression. While Kamimura denied the accusations, the court rejected his defense after examining his actions before and after the accident.
Judge Peter Yu observed that although the crime has a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, a fine has been imposed in consideration of Kamimura’s expulsion from his agency and the collapse of his entertainment career.
The accident occurred in March during a celebratory dinner in a restaurant in the south of Hong Kong after a fans’ meeting. According to the victim, Kamimura – who was drunk – touched her thigh several times despite her refusal. Presumably he also used a translation app to make an inappropriate proposal, asking her to go to the bathroom with him and touched him again after he rejected him.
Kamimura’s lawyer appealed by clemency, citing his personal difficulties, including the loss of his father at the age of 10, having grown up by his mother and sister, in front of about 3 million HKDs (520 million KRW) in damage to the contractual penalty and blocked at Hong Kong for over five months.
Judge Yu, however, strongly sentenced the assault:
“The accused’s conduct clearly shows a lack of respect for women and deserves criticism. Given the imbalance of significant power at that moment, it is natural that the victim cannot leave or react actively.”
Kamimura, who had appeared in Japanese dramas like MinorsHe received a visible support from a small group of fans present in the classroom, with a little crying listening to the verdict.
