On March 5, the YouTube channel “Scoop World – That person at that moment” posted a video titled “‘I was the introverted eldest son of a traditional family…’ Comedian Ahn Sang-tae reveals why he disappeared during his career.” In the video, the comedian shared the difficult circumstances that led him to step away from the spotlight.
Ahn Sang-tae debuted in 2004 and quickly became a familiar face to Korean audiences thanks to his appearances in the comedy series Concert gagwhere he gained widespread popularity with the character “Aneobeong”. Despite its success and nationwide recognition, it eventually disappeared from television, leaving many viewers wondering what happened.
In the video, Ahn Sang-tae was seen at home reminding his daughter to wear slippers, demonstrating how sensitive he has become about potential noise problems between floors. He explained that the concern stems from a past controversy involving allegations of floor noise in his previous apartment. “I moved here four years ago because of the floor noise controversy. Back then I felt like a criminal to the point that I couldn’t even leave the house.” he said.
According to Ahn Sang-tae, the controversy started after someone reported him for causing excessive noise on the floor. However, he said the accusation was manipulated and did not reflect reality. She recalled that neighbors on both the floor directly below and the floor below even wrote statements saying they had never had any noise problems from her family.
Ahn Sang-tae also revealed that he met the person who filed the complaint in court. The individual reportedly admitted that the request was written due to the stress of raising a child. Despite this explanation, the issue had already spread widely through media coverage and public debate. “Even though I wasn’t guilty, once the news hit the media, I felt like I couldn’t even go out to eat,” he shared.
The reaction also extended to his family. Ahn Sang-tae said harmful comments online have targeted his young daughter, including disturbing comments wishing her harm. “People wrote cruel comments about my daughter. Some even said that her body should have been cut up. Luckily she was still very young. If she had been older, she might have thought she was guilty too.” he said, expressing his sadness over the situation.
Despite the painful experience, Ahn Sang-tae continues to pursue his passion in a different way. The comedian revealed that he is currently focusing on producing films independently. He handles almost every part of the process himself, including script writing, lighting, editing, props, and even the acting. However, the financial rewards have been modest.
Ahn Sang-tae revealed that one of his films only earned around KRW 320,000 in a year, highlighting the challenges of independent cinema. However, he said the emotional fulfillment keeps him motivated. “Not many people watch them, but when someone understands the story I imagined and talks about it, it makes me happy. I think that feeling is why I keep doing it.” he said.
Through his candid revelation, Ahn Sang-tae shed light on the personal cost of public controversy and the lasting impact it can have on celebrities and their families.
