Controversial streamer Johnny Somali he could be jailed for his recent activities in Korea.
Johnny Somali is an American live streamer primarily active on the platform SOCCER and has earned infamy for its behavior in several countries, the most recent of which is Korea.
In October, a Somali man livestreamed himself kissing the Statue of Peace at Itaewon, a memorial dedicated to the countless Korean women who were subjected to unspeakable horrors as comfort women during World War II under Imperial Japan. Somali’s actions, accompanied by his insensitive jokes, sparked an immediate reaction, including from local citizens who sought out the streamer to attack him.
His previous actions led to him being expelled from Japan, but these most recent ones could result in a much harsher punishment.
It was previously reported that a Somali man had been reported to police for drug use and assault stemming from an incident at a convenience store.

If found guilty, these two charges can both lead to prison sentences. Possession or use of illegal drugs can carry a prison sentence of up to 10 years or a fine of up to ₩100 million KRW (approximately $71,400 USD), while assault can carry a maximum sentence of two years or ₩5 ,00 million KRW (approximately $3,570 USD) well.
Under Article Two of the Korean Criminal Law, foreigners who commit crimes in Korea are subject to local laws.
If the matter were taken to court, it would not be the first time he has faced charges in an Asian country. Previously, he had been convicted and fined 200,000 yen (about $1,294) in Japan as well as being expelled from the country.
