Famous anime director Tsutomu Shibayama, best known for his work Doraemonis dead.
The news was officially announced on March 17 through the social media channels of Ajiado Animation Works, of which Shibayama previously served as president.
According to the statement, “Our former president, Tsutomu Shibayama, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2026, from lung cancer.” He was 84 years old.
The company added, “Shibayama has spent more than 20 years directing both TV series and theatrical films Doraemonand was also the main director of the television anime Nintama Rantaro. We express our deepest gratitude for his lifelong contribution and respectfully share this news.”
Born on March 9, 1941, Shibayama has built a long and influential career as an animation director, storyboard artist, and animator.
